The Nothing Phone 2 is now offered in dark gray and white. If you recall the Phone 1, everything sort of slipped out. While this device still has the tab that must be ripped open, which was problematic with the white version, it also has a separate, self-contained box that slides out. Therefore, you’ll be able to package your Nothing Phone 2 elegantly if you ever decide to sell it.

What’s In The Box ?

The Nothing Phone 2 is included in the box, along with some safety instructions and a warranty card. A new semi-transparent Nothing USBC to USBC cable is included with a SIM card removal tool. Now let’s discuss Nothing Phone 2. It does, however, come with a screen protector that has already been applied, which is a lovely touch. This is available in two colors: white and dark grey.

Therefore, my initial thoughts are that it reminds me a lot of the Nothing Phone 1. It’s strange that when Carl tweeted about the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the S23 Ultra, everyone immediately replied with this, even though the Nothing Phone 2 leaks only slightly resemble the Nothing Phone 1.

What Is Changed? Nothing Phone 1 vs Nothing Phone 2

First off, compared to the Nothing Phone 1, the Nothing Phone 2 is slightly bigger. Additionally, it is a bit heavier. We still have a flat aluminum frame that is made entirely of recycled aluminum, and because sustainability is a top priority, some of the circuit board is made entirely of recycled tin. Additionally, 80% of the plastic is recycled. If you wish to learn more about the Nothing Phone 2’s sustainability.

Nothing 2 Design & IP Rating

The fact that the glass is now curved toward the corners is one of the major differences at the back, and it really makes the Nothing Phone 2 feel a little bit more comfortable than the Nothing Phone 1.

We now have an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, which is an improvement above IP53. This essentially means that the dust resistance is unchanged, but the water resistance is marginally stronger, so if you do get direct water on it, it should be just fine.

The white is relatively similar, but the gray is now a lighter shade so that we can see more of the components in the back. The gray still has fingerprints on it, but not as many as the Nothing Phone 1. The white doesn’t seem to draw as many, or at least they don’t show up as much. Now, I still enjoy the design a lot. Although it appears to be an iPhone from the front, the back is actually quite distinctive, and to be completely honest, I didn’t expect it to differ significantly from the Nothing Phone 1, whose back is arguably one of the most original designs in recent memory.

GLYPH Upgrade - A Major Update

Let’s talk about the glyph interface now because, although being very familiar, it has been greatly segmented. We now have 33 different addressable zones, which essentially allows for much more personalization.Everything from the Nothing Phone 1 is still available, but we also have crucial glyph notifications, which are more persistent alerts for critical individuals or applications.

Since we now have adaptive glyph brightness, a sensor is actually mounted above the camera. This sensor will detect your surroundings and adjust the glyph brightness appropriately. In addition, the symbol may now be made brighter and darker than it could on the Nothing Phone 1.

You may set a glyph timer for how long you want it to last, and then face the phone down to begin the timer. And this time, we’re going to have more third-party connections, so you’ll be able to use Uber, for example, to use the glyphs to track the progress of your ride. Now, all of this is fine and good, and I do appreciate the capabilities that are available, but usually speaking, I prefer to hold my phone in front of me so that I can see the screen at all times. I won’t typically have my phone facing backwards while I’m waiting for or spotting my Uber.

I’ll actually be using my phone, so it has some great capabilities, but I’m not sure how much I’ll be utilizing them. The new Glyph Composer, in my opinion, is the glyph that has improved the most recently. This specific app allows you to record a custom glyph pattern for 10 seconds to use as a ringtone or notification.

There will now be musical artist collaborations. There will be one with Swedish House Mafia, I’ve already heard.  As a result, you will be able to receive personalized glyph notifications and ringtones for certain musical acts. It somehow brings to mind the Nokia era, which many of you won’t be old enough to remember when you could actually create your own ringtones.

With this glyph design, you will be able to perform this, which is quite neat. Now, many of you will be wondering whether these functions will also be available on the Nothing Phone 1.

Now, regrettably, many of these won’t work with the Nothing Phone 1 because it uses a different LED system.

Nothing Phone 2 Display Reveiw

Now let’s discuss the display. One of my favorite aspects of the Nothing Phone 1 was the display. The Nothing Phone 2’s display is likewise really beautiful, and it has uniform bezels, which is very impressive given its pricing. Even though the overall display is larger, measuring 6.7 inches as opposed to the Nothing Phone 1’s 6.55 inches, the uniform bezels are still present.

This display has an adjustable refresh rate and can go as low as one hertz, which is meant to make it more efficient. It is also now an LTPO display. The Nothing Phone 2 does have a brighter display, and the in-display fingerprint scanner is still present.

The Nothing Phone 1 wasn’t bad, but the HDR brightness was only up to 1,200 nits, while the ordinary brightness peaked at roughly 500 nits. First impression: really excellent display, very nice. The Nothing Phone 2 boasts a standard brightness of 1,000 nits and an HDR max of 1,600 nits.

Nothing Phone 2 Camera Details

Okay, cameras, so we actually have a new sensor for the front-facing camera. There are still two 50 megapixel cameras on the back, but the camera resolution has increased to 32 megapixels from the Phone 1’s 16 megapixels. Actually, the ultra wide uses the same sensor, the Samsung JN1. This also allows for macro photography. The main camera, however, has been enhanced. This is a one over 1.56 inch sensor with optical image stabilization with a 50 megapixel Sony IMX 890 sensor.

The main factor to take into account right now is that the chip set includes a brand-new 18-bit image signal processor (ISP). Consequently, this means that all photographs will be better. The primary camera has a new sensor, obviously, but even though the ultra wide camera uses the same sensor as last year, the ISP will allow for far more processing.

Therefore, we have enhanced HDR, which can blend eight frames with various exposures into one. You could only mix three on the original Phone. You should have a significantly wider dynamic range as a result. Both stability and video quality have been enhanced.

So instead of 4K at 30 frames per second, the Nothing Phone 2 now offers 4K at 60 frames per second. Up to 480 frames can be displayed in slow motion. We could get up to 120 frames per second on the Phone 1.

Nothing 2 Processor Details

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which was the top model for the latter half of 2022, is the new chipset that we described earlier. The main chipset for 2023 is the 8 Gen 2, so it isn’t the newest, but Nothing has chosen to use the 8+ Gen 1, which is still a very powerful and effective chipset, in order to balance price and performance.

Nothing 2 OS Details

Moving on to the software, the Nothing Phone 2 will be pre-installed with Nothing OS 2.0. I adore Nothing OS because it is very simple. Nothing has promised three years of Android updates with four years of security patches every two months, and they already have a successful track record with the Nothing Phone 1, which has already received nine software updates since launch and will receive the Nothing OS 2.0 update in August. Nothing reminds me a little bit of Oxygen OS from back in the day.

This will come pre-installed on the Nothing Phone 2. We now have the monochrome theme in Nothing OS 2.0. You now see circular folder icons as a result of our new folder configuration. Additionally, you may apply Nothing-branded icons to folders and apps. Emojis from Android can also be used for these.

Four or five columns are an option to make the most of the bigger screen, and you can also disable app labels for a cleaner look and more room. Now, fast settings can be found on the lock screen and widgets can be constantly visible. So, for instance, you might put the hotspot setting—which you use frequently—on the lock screen. Nice upgrades, many of which will also be made to the Nothing Phone 1.

Nothing 2 Battery Details

Let’s talk about the battery now. The Nothing Phone 2 does have a little larger battery than the Phone 1, which has a capacity of 4,700 milliamps as opposed to 4,500 milliamps. The battery life on the Nothing Phone 1 was actually excellent and lasted me the entire day. Due to the more effective LTPO technology and the more effective chip set, the 8+ Gen 1, I would anticipate the Nothing Phone 2 to have longer battery life while having a larger display.

The Phone 1 does feature capability for up to 33 watts of charging, which would charge it completely in about 70 minutes because charging has also been enhanced. Despite the larger battery, the Nothing Phone 2 does allow 45 watts of charging, which will give you a full charge in about 55 minutes. The charger must be purchased separately because it is not included in the box. The Phone 2 will take about 10 minutes longer to fully charge wirelessly compared to the Phone 1 (approximately 130 minutes), and G wireless charging is still the same 15 watts.

Even though I hardly ever utilize the five watts of reverse charging that are still available, it does look quite cool when used to charge Nothing EM 1s or 2s. If we glance around the device, the top has only a microphone.

Nothing 2 Hardware Details

The volume buttons are located on the left. Power button can be found on the right side. The USB type C ports are located at the bottom. We have one of the two series speakers and a SIM card tray with room for two SIM cards and we have one of the two series speakers.

One is in the earphone, and one is firing from the bottom. What will the Nothing Phone 2 cost then? Well, I did say it would cost more, and that more expensive price will be 49k for 8GB RAM with 128 ROM & 50k for 12GB RAM with 256 ROM , which is about 50% more than the Nothing Phone 1.

Now, this is something I was expecting, and I believe the price increase is appropriate given the new capabilities we have, such as the enhanced cameras, chipset, display, and upgraded graphical interface.
